About
Our Council
St.
Malachy Council was founded in 1992 and is named after St. Malachy.
Saint Malachy was born in 1094 in Armagh, Ireland. He was a
twelfth-century reformer of Christianity in Ireland. He worked
zealously to restore ecclesiastical discipline, restored marriage,
renewed the practice of confession and confirmation, and introduced
Roman chants in the liturgy. He was also known for his care to the
needy as a miracle worker and healer. Legend has it that he is know
for his gift of prophecy. He became Archbishop of Armagh and a
papal legate. In his lifetime, he planted apple trees throughout
Ireland during time of famine. He died in 1148 suddenly while
visiting his friend, St. Bernard in Clarivaux, France. He was
canonized in 1190 and his feast day is November 3.
